You show me yours...Wednesday!

Today is...You show me yours, I'll show you mine!
Any picture will do...find something great you want to share...please!
It can be an old find, or a new one.
If you want to send it to me via email...fkthrifty@gmail.com that would be great, or you can post it on the facebook page, and I can transfer it here...or just leave a link in your comment.

This is where me being new at this comes into play.  I thought you could insert pic in comments, guess not.  I'll try to figure out what I can do to make this simple until then...link away!!

I found these yesterday when I took a side trip to a second hand store looking for some pearls...
Some great dress up jewelry for Moo girl...we have a slap wrist bracelet, some daisy clip on earrings, and a hot pink stretch bracelet...fun, fun, fun!

I'll have more finds to show later...here's yours...

I saw this...but I didn't buy it...but it was oh so cute!

Here are some of my finds from this week...Here's mine

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Remember the teaser picture from facebook I sent out last night?
What sweet memories.

Let's start out with the good.
Started my day by taking a quick run to Hobby Lobby, which always puts me in a great mood.  Still not exactly sure what I was going to do, and knowing I had everything I could possibly need at home, except little pearls...which I found in the bridal section for seventy-five cents.
I was so excited to start my shoe project, but life happens.  Kids come home from school, gymnastics, and dinner...so at 11pm I gathered some supplies, I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do...I needed a soy candle, needle/thread, satin...why a candle?  Well, to make satin flowers, you use a candle to keep the edges from fraying...why soy?  Because it doesn't leave the black soot from the flame on your flower.

So as I was staring at the shoe with the pearls in hand...I had no idea what to do.  I knew that I needed a strap for these beauties...so, I decided a pearl strap would look great...it would look like little ankle bracelets.  Great idea until I realized that I had no idea what size strap I would need.  So I got out my night vision goggles, and sneaked into Maddies room.

And yes, that is a very large, sharp needle by her foot.  Remember it was after 11pm.

The pearl strap looked and worked great.  I used elastic thread so that it would be an easy on and off.
  So now onto the flowers.

I was pleased.  Not overly impressed, but at least pleased.  So when Moo woke up in the morning I had her model the one shoe I created...
I was so excited!  I was going to finish my blog post, and I was going to look so crafty.
I started my project again about 11pm tonight...gathered some more supplies, this time I was going to take pictures, and it was going to be so pretty...

Then bad things started to happen. I was not liking my flowers.  They didn't look even too me.  They started to look odd.  I still decided to hot glue them on.  I needed to finish.  I had to finish.  I had to POST my beautiful Pinterest inspired shoes!!!  Before I could even take a picture of the final product...I  tore them off.  They were not right.  When I bought these shoes I knew that there where some small holes from the staples that the smart people at the thrift store used to attach the price, but I thought I could cover them up, with the flower.  I kinda did.

That plastic flower embellishment on the shoe...I again thought I could cover it up nicely...I sorta did.  But because of all the covering I had to do, I made these flowers too big.  And so now...we have the ugly...

But that's okay...tomorrow is a new day, I have another thing of bridal pearls, and I have an entirely new idea...

A Dirty Little Secret

Yes, thrifting can be dirty, and it can also be a secret.

Thrift stores had so much stigma when I was young, even when I became older...you didn't talk about it.  When Moo would wear the cutest outfit and I would get asked where did you get it?  If I didn't really know the person, I would say "hmmmm...I forgot?!" Knowing that I got it at that dirty little store from the questionable side of town.  You know the place that reeks of cigarette smoke from the lady sneaking a smoke in the back room.  Its cramped and dark.  Only cash.  And some things I wouldn't even touch. But in the middle of it I would find a snazzy little jean jacket by Guess.  A must have for my fashion forward toddler.  So I would do my shopping, go home with the bag tied shut, dump it in the washer with fabric softener...and BAM!  Out would come a perfect non-stinking jean jacket, that other moms would envy...bwahahaha.  Yes, I can be that devious with my finds.

I think my best find there was my yellow 2 qt cast iron Le Creuset pot.  Paid $4.99, William and Sonoma sale price, $165. I love that thing, use it almost every single day.  The perfect pot.  Other thrifters act as if that kind of find happens all the time...it doesn't.  I have crept into that store, and have crept out empty handed.  Too many times to count.  But I keep going back..why...because Le Creuset tells me too.

Confession time...

I shop thrift stores.  Not a little, a lot...not because I have no choice, but because I want to and I love it!  When I was growing up there was stigma to second hand stores.  You only went if you were poor.  No one I knew would be caught dead in one.  Well, when I turned 18 and started to have to pay for my own items, those thoughts changed.  I first started going with my sister we would travel an hour away to our favorite resale shop(2 hours for me, an hour to her place first).  Soon, I moved out of state and I stopped going to thrift stores.  Didn't really need them so much.  Then came kids.  I wanted to be a stay at home mom, and on one salary that can be tricky.  So, I started doing it again.  There are so many reasons to go thrifting.  The economic reasons are a great excuse.  The environmental reasons are great too.  Why buy a new widget when there is a perfectly good one waiting to be recycled?  Personally, I like the thrill...I know that sounds silly.  But really when your walking around a store, and you see this bin of stuffed animals and you think "no way" you pass by it several times, and finally you just look down...and what do you see?!
Yes, that's right...an American Girl doll Kit Mini! Seriously my heart skipped a beat!  I was so excited...when I went to check out, I couldn't help but tell the cashier how happy I was.  She looked at me like I was nuts.  Which I guess I am, but still - I needed to share my find!  I tell hubby, he looks at me grins says "that's nice" and moves on.  I want to share my finds.  Sometimes I have great days like today.  Sometimes I have no luck.
It is true someones junk is an others treasure.
Like this gem...how do you pass up a David Bowie T-shirt?  Its the Labyrinth for Pete's Sake!!!  LOL...no, I'll never be able to wear it the sizing is way too small for me... that's why I also have created a Finders Keepers Store.  I find some fabulous things, and I would love to help you find some fabulous things.  Today I found 2 banana republic shirts, a beautiful IPSA skirt, some great summer dresses for the girls and not only the mini Kit doll, but also a size 8 American Girl Dress.  I am currently working on my store, and I will link the store with prices and pictures.  I just need a little time. I plan on having a variety of items, currently it will be a lot of girl items, because that is what I have, but I would love any suggestions of what you need and want...I would love to help you find stuff too!

My other plan...is also to have my love of Pinterest to come alive.  I want to do a project a week that I find and see if I can make it.  Because I can pin all I want, but if I don't commit to making it...whats the point?  My first project...is Daddy Daughter Dance shoes.  I did this last year for my Moo girl, and this year looks like I will be doing it again.

I found these beauties...didn't look so pretty in the store, kinda grubby, and missing a strap.  But I have some ideas floating around in my head to make these perfect for the dance.  Can't wait to begin, and then to show off the final product!

This blog is a work in process.  So please join me in the fun, I take suggestions and will answer any questions you may have in regards to thrifting, and crafting.  I have a lot planned.  Giving tips on how to thrift, weekly show-offs and whatever other ideas we can come up with.

Thanks again for playing along.
